Scholarships
The Sacramento Section offers two scholarships and one student speaker award each year to students attending universities or colleges located within the geographic boundaries of the section. These universities include: CSU Chico, CSU Fresno, CSU Sacramento, CSU Stanislaus, UC Davis, UC Merced, and University of the Pacific.
The scholarships, typically a minimum of $1,000 to a junior or senior year undergraduate student and $1,250 to a first or second year graduate student, were established to promote the study of geology, environmental geology/hydrogeology, engineering geology, or related earth science disciplines.
In addition to scholarships, the Sacramento Section holds a student speaker competition each year. The selected recipient of the student speaker award will present their undergraduate or graduate thesis research at the annual Student Night meeting. This is a one of a kind opportunity for students to present their research work in a friendly, but professional setting, and to gain valuable exposure to a wide range of potential future employers. As an added incentive, the Section is offering a $250 award for the student selected to present at the Student Night event.
For students who aren’t yet ready for a full oral presentation, we welcome poster presentations for those students interested in sharing their work.
The scholarship and student speaker award application materials for the current year are generally distributed to the local universities and posted on this webpage in late February. Awards are presented at the annual AEG Sacramento Student Night meeting in April.
